Out to Dinner on Thanksgiving

Some nearby restaurants will be open and ready to serve.

A traditional Thanksgiving dinner may not be for everyone, even though it might seem so when you witness the dearth of stuffing packages on the supermarket shelf.  I myself have hosted more than one Thanksgiving dinner at which I served swordfish.  And my family has also spent the day in a restaurant a few times.  Whether you want to buck the system, not bother or just shake things up, it’s always good to know that, when it comes to this Thursday’s evening meal, there are  options.

Here are some of them:

Healthy Food, 575 Bloomfield Ave. in Verona says they will be open on Thanksgiving, serving their regular Aisan fare.

Another Aisan option is the highly regarded at 89 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, in the Pilgrim Shopping Plaza.  They will be open on Thanksgiving from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

If turkey is not necessarily your thing, at 467 Bloomfield Ave (at Verona Park) will be open from 9 a.m. to 8:30 serving traditional Portuguese dishes on Thursday.

Pal’s Cabin in nearby West Orange (265 Prosepect Ave.) will be serving from noon to 7 p.m.  Reservations are necessary for the dining room, which will offer the choice of one of five complete dinners: Turkey, Prime Rib, Sirloin Steak, Baked Flounder or Broiled Salmon.  Additionally, their casual room will be open and also serving burgers and sandwiches; for that you can just walk in.

Similarly, Montclair Patch reports that the both The Manor (111 Prospect Ave. in West Orange) and Highlawn Pavillion in Eagle Rock Reservation are offering a traditional Thanksgiving menu.  (Reservations necessary for both.)

Finally, if diner food is your fancy, at 676 Bloomfield Ave. will be serving breakfast and lunch only (7 a.m. until 1 p.m.) and the Pilgrim Diner (bless them) never closes.  (82 Pompton Ave. in Cedar Grove) will be offering most everything on their regular menu as well as a special holiday menu.  Patch was told, “There will be a few things on our regular menu that you can’t get that day – like our regular turkey dinner.  The only turkey you can get on Thanksgiving will be our special turkey dinner for that day.”  (Reservations necessary for parties of five or more.)

That seems reasonable to us, and the added delight of having Thanksgiving at The Pilgrim might even be worth foregoing all those dirty dishes we were looking forward to.

Is there any place we missed?  Let us know in the comments!
