📰 News we're reading
• County Declines To Renew Verona's Lease On Veterans Field, Plans Redevelopment (myveronanj.com) — Essex County has decided not to renew Verona's lease on Veterans Field next to the Community Center and is seeking bids to redevelop it as a county softball field, though current usage won't change yet. Verona officials are negotiating over design, scheduling rights, and possible land swaps, while residents' access to key recreation space and nearby drinking water wells remain central concerns.
• Handling conflict through peer mediation: how students, teachers and staff benefit (mediate.com) — F.N. Brown School in Verona has spent over a decade building a peer mediation program that's now part of the official Verona School District curriculum. Fourth graders help classmates resolve everyday playground conflicts, supporting a calmer school climate, fewer disciplinary issues, and stronger communication skills, while similar programs spread to other New Jersey schools at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
