Rain Florist is One-Stop Shop for Prom Corsages

With prom season in full swing, Rain Florist, located at 466 Pompton Ave., Apt 1A in Cedar Grove, is hard at work creating the perfect corsages and boutonnieres from its abundant selection of flowers and ribbons. 

The store has been open for seven years, but was bought by the current owner, Amy Bruncaj, only three years ago. Before taking over Rain Florist, Bruncaj was the owner of Amy’s Florist in Verona for 15 years. 

With plenty of experience, it is no surprise that orders for prom are already piling up. “We have lots of corsage orders already,” said Bruncaj. “They started coming in about two weeks ago.” 

Bruncaj explained this is because there are two local proms coming up in the next two weekends, including the Cedar Grove prom on May 24. 

While popular dress styles and hairdos change each year, flowers stay classic. Because of this, Bruncaj creates each corsage based on the individual girl rather than what is trendy. Her expertise extends beyond just flowers, but also to her ability to match flowers to dresses and to make each corsage unique. 

“We match the flowers to the dresses that the girls wear, and we match the boutonnieres to the girls dresses too. Usually if they have a dress sample they bring it here and I try to match,” explained Bruncaj. 

Girls can pick flowers that compliment their dress in color, and also in style and size. Rain Florist is stocked with roses, orchids and many other special flowers to be used in corsages. 

They also have no shortage of ribbon. “I have lots of ribbon in the store. The girls usually come in and pick the one that they feel is close to their dress color,” Bruncaj said. 

The copious selection of flowers and ribbons at Rain Florist explains their prom success. “We had close to 100 orders last year. This year I think we’re getting even more, because orders started earlier this year.” 

Although prom time can be busy, Bruncaj thinks prom is a beautiful occasion for her shop, especially following Mother’s Day, another holiday-filled with flowers. 

“The customers are very loyal to our local business, so we are very happy.”
