Cars Hit, Kill Man Near Montclair, Verona Border On Halloween: PD
A Montclair man died after two cars hit him as he was crossing Bloomfield Avenue near the Verona border on Halloween, police said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A serious motor vehicle accident claimed the life of a pedestrian near the Montclair and Verona border on Halloween morning, authorities said.
The fatal incident took place around 6:30 a.m. as Samson Hum, 52, of Montclair, was crossing Bloomfield Avenue near Lloyd Road near Montclair Kimberly Academy, according to a joint statement from Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II and Montclair Police Chief Todd Conforti.
Hum was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:01 a.m., authorities said.

Prosecutors said that Hum was hit by two cars: a Ford Focus and a Jeep Wrangler. Both drivers remained at the scene, and no charges have been filed as of Wednesday.

The Verona Police Department stated Wednesday that a “serious motor vehicle accident” would close Bloomfield Avenue eastbound at Pompton Avenue and impact local traffic through the morning rush hour. There was no access to Montclair during the incident, police said.
“This is expected to last through rush hour,” the VPD stated. “Please plan an alternate route.”
Bloomfield Avenue was reopened as of 10:45 a.m., a VPD update stated.
DeCamp Bus Lines posted the following advisory on social media on Wednesday morning:
“Due to police activity on Bloomfield Ave in Montclair our 33 buses coming down from Verona and West Caldwell are operating late.”
