In Verona: Craigslist Ripoff, Criminal Mischief with Mustard, Gas Station Dispute and Tree Damage

Police Blotter: April 3 to 10

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are taken directly from the Verona Police Blotter, which may not include the full scope of police activity in the area. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

4/3/2015

1:15 PM - Officer Joe Ballantyne took a report of a fraud from a South Prospect Street resident. The resident reported he sold an item on craigslist and the buyer paid with a money order. The buyer sent additional funds and asked the resident to cash the money order and mail the difference back to the buyer. After he cashed the money order he was advised by his bank that it was fraudulent and they would be holding him responsible for the funds.

3:50 PM - Officer Justin Nielsen took a report of criminal mischief from a Mountainview Road resident. The resident reported that juveniles have been trespassing on her property and have left trash on the property.

9:20 PM - Officer Nielsen took a report of criminal mischief from a Cypress Avenue resident. The resident reported he heard a car door close and when he looked outside his house he saw a vehicle drive driving away from his home. A short time later he discovered that an unknown actor had thrown mustard onto his car. The value of any damage is unknown at this time.

4/4/2015

10:36 AM - Officer Robert Juliano took a report of found property from a Wayne resident. They reported finding a key and ID card in the rear of the middle school. The owner was notified to retrieve their property.

4/5/2015

11:52 AM - Officer Juliano took a report of a dispute at a Pompton Avenue gas station. The dispute was over the position of the vehicle at the gas pump. The officer spoke to all individuals involved and the dispute was resolved.

4:08 PM - Officer Chris Scheper took a report of four suspicious people at a Morningside road residence. A neighbor reported observing the individuals at the home. When the neighbor confronted the individuals they stated they were from the bank and there to photograph the house. When the neighbor went back into her house the individuals left the area in a Gray Dodge caravan. The area was checked with negative results for the vehicle.

4/6/2015

10:12 AM - Officer Juliano took a report of a dispute from a Claridge Drive resident. The resident reported a dispute with a window repair man who was at her residence. She reported she was having an issue with a draft coming from her window after they had been replaced by the repairman. After speaking with the resident and the repairman he agreed to fix the window as requested by the resident.

4/7/2015

10:17 AM - Officer Anthony Condorelli took a report of a stolen bicycle from a Birdseye Glen resident. The resident reported her son’s bicycle was stolen from the rear yard. The value of the bike is $328.

6:28 PM - Officer Scheper took a report of fraud from a Crestmont Road resident. The resident reported several fraudulent transactions on his bank account. He has been in contact with his bank. He was provided with identity theft information.

4/9/2015

11:08 AM - Officer Erin McGarrity took a report of Property Damage from a Parsons Court resident. The resident reported that a neighbor’s tree had fallen causing damage to his deck. Value of the damage is unknown at this time.

11:53 PM - Officer Nielsen took a report of a dispute on Verona Place. A taxi driver reported a passenger left the taxi without paying and went into a residence on Verona Place. Officers were able to locate the passenger who stated she had told the driver when she was picked up that she would have to go into the residence for the money. She also stated that the driver attempted to prevent her from leaving the taxi. The fare was paid and all parties were satisfied.
