In Verona: Injured Soccer Player, Business Dispute, Telephone Assault, IRS Scam

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are taken directly from the Verona Police Blotter, which may not include the full scope of police activity in the area. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
5/1/2015
8:35 AM - Officer Joe Ballantyne took a report of criminal mischief from a Morningside Road resident. The resident reported that her vehicle had been keyed sometime during the overnight hours. The value of the damage is unknown.

3:47 PM - Officer Steve Young took a report of a simple assault from a Bloomfield Avenue business. The business owner reported receiving a telephone call from a customer who made threats to her while discussing the cost of an item purchased by his wife. Officer also spoke with the male who denied making any threats. Parties were advised of complaint procedures.

9:16 AM - Officer Lecreux responded to a Pompton Avenue business on a report of a person who fell. After speaking with the individual he reported he was not injured and declined any medical attention.
12:01 PM - Officer Ballantyne responded along with the Verona Rescue Squad to a report of an injured soccer player at Linn Drive. After treatment by the Verona Rescue Squad the victim was transported to St. Joseph’s hospital.
3:45 PM - Officer Justin Nielsen took a report of a dispute at a Bloomfield Avenue business. The customer reported that when he attempted to compete a transaction the clerk advised him that he needed a smaller denomination bill to complete the transaction. After unsuccessfully attempting to get smaller bills he went back to the counter and was again denied service. The attendant requested the customer leave the store and not return. Police advised the customer of this.
3:45 PM - Officer Mike Barone took a report of criminal mischief from a Park Avenue resident. The resident reported his vehicle was damaged while parked in the parking lot. Value of damage is unknown at this time.
7 PM - Officer Thomas Conroy arrested Jessica Martinez of Newark on an outstand warrant from the Newark Municipal Court. She was transported to police headquarters, processed and released with a new court date.
5/7/2015
5:34 PM - Officer Young took a report of a fraud from a Franklin Street resident. The resident reported that an unknown person may have attempted to file a tax return using his information. The resident has been in touch with the IRS and was provided with identity theft information.
8:02 PM - Sgt. Paul Watkins responded along with the Verona Rescue Squad to a report of an injured person on Martin Road. The victim had fallen off his bicycle and suffered injuries to his arms and legs. After treatment the victim was transported to Mountainside Hospital.
