In Verona: Intoxicated Car Chase, Grease Fire, Damaged Car, Tree Damages Fence and Pool, Suspicious Person

Police Blotter: July 10 to 16

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are taken directly from the Verona police blotter, which may not include the full scope of police activity in the area. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

7/10/2015

12:58 AM - Officer Ed Ruff conducted a motor vehicle stop on Bloomfield Avenue by White Rock Road for an observed violation. While speaking with the operator he drove away from the area and traveled East on Bloomfield Avenue. The officer followed the vehicle East on Bloomfield Avenue to Gould Street where the driver exited his vehicle and walked into police headquarters. The operator, Patrick Hanly of West Orange was placed under arrest. He was processed and charged with numerous motor vehicle charges including driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with eluding and resisting arrest. He was released after posting bail.

1:32 PM - Officer Erin McGarrity took a report of a lost wallet form a Linden Avenue resident. The wallet contained a NJ driver’s license, credit cards and a small amount of cash.

2:50 PM - Officer Justin Nielsen took a report of property damage from a Westview Road resident. The resident reported damage to a fence in her yard. The value of the damage is unknown at this time.

7:32 PM - Officer Nielsen responded with the Verona Fire Department to a report of smoke coming from a house on Linden Ave. The smoke was from a grease fire that the resident had extinguished. The fire department assisted in clearing the smoke from the house.

7/11/2015

11:05 AM - Officer Anthony Condorelli took a report of property damage from a Sunset Avenue resident. The resident reported the rear window of her car was shattered sometime during the night. A golf ball was found on the ground near the car.

9:20 PM - Sgt. Paul Watkins took a report of found property from a White Rock Road resident. The property owner was contacted and responded to retrieve his property.

7/12/2015

10:11 AM - Officer Condorelli took a report of a theft from a Bloomfield Avenue business. The employee reported a male entered the business while he was outside assisting a customer and took a pack of cigarettes and a small amount of cash.

7:21 PM - Officer Chris Scheper conducted a motor vehicle stop on Grove Avenue after a random check of the license plate showed an active warrant for the registered owner. While speaking with the operator the officer determined that it was the owner. Dennis Alston 4th of East Orange was placed under arrest for an active warrant from the Irvington Municipal Court. He was transported to police headquarters for processing. After processing he posted bail and was released.

7/14/2015

8:22 AM - Officer Erin McGarrity arrested Sandra Cherry on outstanding warrants from the Montclair and Newark Municipal Courts. She was transported to headquarters and processed. After processing she was turned over to the Montclair Police Department.

7/15/2015

8 AM - Officer Condorelli took a report of property damage from a Woodland Avenue resident. The resident reported a neighbor’s tree fell into his yard causing damage to his fence, pool and yard decorations. Value of the damage is unknown at this time.

8:56 AM - Officer Thomas Conroy arrest Steven Salerno of Caldwell on outstanding warrants from the Caldwell and Fort Lee Municipal Courts. After processing he posted bail and was released.

7/16/2015

12:00 - Officer John Lecreux arrested Bernard Lee of Orange on an outstanding warrant from the Verona Municipal Court. After processing the subject posted bail and was released.

5:46 PM - Officer Chris Scheper took a report of a suspicious person on Wedgewood Drive. Several residents reported observing a white male, who they did not recognize from the area, attempting to open several doors. The officer checked the area but was unable to locate the subject.
