In Verona: Jewelry Theft, IRS Scam, Dog Walking Dispute, Fires and Contractor Issues

4/24/2015
7:45 PM - Officer Steve Young responded along with the Verona Fire Department on a report of a garbage can fire on Bloomfield Avenue. The fire was extinguished and the value of damage is unknown at this time.

3:40 PM - Officer Thomas Conroy took a report of a dispute from a Halsted Street resident. The resident reported that contractors working at her neighbor’s house were trespassing on her property. The neighbor reported that the contractors remained on his property at all times. All parties were advised of complaint procedures.

4/26/2015
8:31 AM - Sgt. Robert Shafer took a report of Property Damage at a Claremont Avenue residence. The resident reported while doing plumbing work the water line snapped. The water to the residence was turned off. Value of damage is unknown at this time.

6:07 PM - Officer Robert Juliano took a report of a burglary from a Hillcrest Terrace resident. The resident reported he arrived home and discovered his home had been burglarized. The rear screen door was found open and a window pane in the rear door was shattered. Reported missing at this time is jewelry and cash. The resident is compiling a list of missing items and the detective bureau is investigating.
4/28/2015
12:05 PM - Officer Erin McGarrity took a report of harassment from a Ravine Road resident. The resident reported receiving a call from a male who stated that a warrant had been issued for her due to a tax return that was filed illegally. The resident contacted her accountant who advised her it was a scam. The resident was advised not to provide her information to anyone calling on the phone.
1:01 PM - Officer Condorelli took a report of a dispute from a Kenwood Avenue resident. The resident reported he had been hired by a contractor from Wayne to provide some design drawings. Upon completing the drawings and submitting a bill the contractor stated he was not going to pay the bill. He was advised of complaint procedures.

11:42 PM - D/Sgt Tim Banta took a report of theft from a Commerce Court business. The business owner reported that he had received a call from a male who was responding to a help wanted ad that he had placed. The male said he could come in immediately for an interview. When the business owner arrived at his office he discovered a computer missing. He provided the officer with the information of the male who had called regarding the job opening.
1:09 PM - Officer McGarrity took a report of a dispute from a Linn Drive resident. The resident reported having a dispute with a neighbor’s dog walker over where the dog was being walked. The dog walker and the dog owner also spoke to the officer and report they feel they are being harassed by the neighbor. All parties were advised of complaint procedures.
4/30/2015
11:47 AM - Officer Condorelli took a report of a fraud from a Pompton Avenue business. The business owner reports that he was advised by his bank that a $100 bill that he deposited was counterfeit.
12:18 PM - Sgt Dan Greco responded along with the Verona Fire Department to a Pompton Avenue business. Upon arrival a smoke condition was found in the building and all occupants were evacuated. It was determined that the smoke was coming from an electrical panel. The smoke was cleared from the building and PSE&G was notified.
