In Verona: Landlord-Tenant Disputes, DWI, Suspicious Person, Bike Theft, Motorist Drives Away With Gas Nozzle Still In Car

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are taken directly from the Verona police blotter, which may not include the full scope of police activity in the area. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
7/17/2015
7:05 PM - Officer Thomas Conroy impounded a vehicle parked on Lakeside Avenue for a violation of the Emergency No Parking Ordinance.

7/18/2015
5:50 AM - Officer Conroy conducted a motor vehicle stop on Pompton Avenue for an observed violation. While speaking to the operator the officer detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. The operator was asked to step from the vehicle to preform field sobriety tests. After completing the tests the operator, Maureen Oday of North Caldwell was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. She was transported to police headquarters, processed and released to a friend.

11:25 AM - Officer Justin Nielsen took a report of a dispute on Bloomfield Avenue. The dispute was over access to an apartment that the individuals shared. After speaking with all parties involved they were able to work out a mutual agreement for the one person to retrieve their belongings from the apartment.

11:09 PM - Sgt. David Wardrope took a report of a dispute at a Bloomfield Avenue location. The dispute was between a landlord and their tenant over back rent and items that were being removed from the location. The landlord was advised to contact the landlord tenant court to resolve the matter.
7/20/2015
11:13 AM - Officer Justin Nielsen took a report of a suspicious person from a Wayland Drive resident. The resident reported that she observed a female going through the mail in a US Postal Box on the street. The officer checked the area but was unable to locate the female. The US Postal Service was contacted to secure the mailbox.
1:16 PM - Officer John Lecreux took a report of a lost wallet from an Arnold Way resident. The wallet contained his driver’s license, credit cards and personal identification. He has been in contact with his credit card companies and was provided with identity theft information.
4:37 PM - Officer Steve Young took a report of lost property from an Otis Place resident. The resident reported she lost her driver’s license and health care card. She was provided with identity theft information.
7/21/2015
1:58 PM - Officer Erin McGarrity took a report of a theft from a Claremont Avenue resident. The resident reported she observed a black male riding a black Schwinn bicycle out of her driveway and travel West on Claremont Ave. When she checked her porch she discovered her bicycle missing off her porch. The value of the bicycle is approximately $600.
7/23/2015
12:07 PM - Officer Condorelli took a report of property damage at a Bloomfield Avenue business. A Verona resident reported that after paying for her gas she pulled away from the pump not realizing that the nozzle was still in her vehicle. Value of the damage is unknown at this time.
12:46 PM - Officer Nielsen took a report of property damage from a Cedar Grove resident. The resident reported she observed damage to her vehicle after she had it washed and waxed at a Bloomfield Avenue business. The officer contacted the business owner who stated he would check the video. Value of the damage is unknown at this time.
3:57 PM - Officer Bill Frazee took a report of a dispute at a Montrose Avenue residence. The homeowner reported he is doing repairs to the stairs at the back entrance and had the stairs blocked off for safety. The tenant is reporting the stairs have been blocked for two weeks and she needs access to them for her and her family. The landlord states that she has access via the front stairs. The tenant stated she will contact the building inspector in the morning.
