Verona Woman Struck by Car on Bloomfield Avenue

Driver cited for careless driving, failure to yield.

A Verona woman was struck by a car this morning crossing Bloomfield Avenue when a car failed to yield to her in the crosswalk, police said Thursday.

The 54-year-old, whose identity was not released, was crossing from Lakeside Avenue at approximately 7:45 a.m. when she was hit by the car and knocked down. She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson by ambulance. Verona Police Chief Doug Huber said the woman was alert and conscious at the scene, and that the hospital reported her in stable condition a few hours later.

The driver, a 43-year-old Bloomfield woman, was cited for careless driving and for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Huber said.
