Police activity July 8-14

The following reports were prepared by the Verona Police Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

07/08/2011

5:37 AM Officer Erin McGarrity responded to a Glen Road residence on a report of a stolen vehicle.  The resident reported observing an unknown actor driving his vehicle out of the driveway after backing onto his lawn and striking a fence.   A second vehicle belonging to the resident was entered and the glove box gone through, although nothing was missing.  A check of the area for suspects proved negative.  The vehicle information was entered into the state computer system and surrounding towns were notified.  The vehicle was recovered later in Newark.

5:54 AM While investigating a stolen motor vehicle on Glen Road, Officer Erin McGarrity was advised that a neighbor also had their vehicles entered.  Sgt. Michael Traettino responded and took a report.  The resident reported his vehicle was gone through and a purse containing numerous identifiers, cash and jewelry were taken. 

11:18 AM Sgt. Stephen DePoe responded to a White Rock Road location and took a report of property damage.  A contractor working in the area reported his vehicle passenger side window was shattered while it was parked.  Landscape contractors were in the area but denied causing the damage.

11:33 AM Officer Joseph Ballantyne responded to an Overlook Park residence and took a report of an attempted burglary.  The resident reported noticing damage to a storm window frame on the home and a family member reported being awakened by a noise in the middle of the night several days ago.

3:37 PM Officer Timothy Banta arrested Dylan Meade of Verona after executing a search warrant for narcotics. Mr. Meade was charged with Possession and Distribution of CDS, Oxycodone, and driving while under the influence.  Several complaints and motor vehicle summonses were issued.  After processing and posting bail he was released.

4:20 PM Officer Anthony Condorelli took a report of a larceny from a Montclair resident.  The resident reported while at Platinum Fitness she left her cell phone on an exercise machine and when she went to retrieve it, it had been taken.

8:20 PM Officer Robert Shafer responded to a Linden Avenue residence and took a report of a burglary.  The resident reported someone entered his garage and stole an antique bicycle.

9:48 AM Officer Joseph Ballantyne responded to a Bloomfield Avenue store and took a report a harassment.

11:50 AM Officer Joseph Ballantyne responded to a Personette Avenue residence and took a report of property damage.  The resident reported a large tree branch had fallen causing damage to a shed.

07/10/2011

5:55 AM Officer Ed Carattini arrested Cameron Wallace of Monclair for burglary.  The officer was dispatched to a Martin Road residence after the owner reported observing Mr. Wallace attempt to gain entry into his home through a basement window.  The suspect was found in the rear yard of the residence and placed under arrest.  Mr. Wallace was charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Resisting arrest and Possession of Burglary tools.  After processing he was transported to the Essex County Jail.

4:39 PM Officer Michael Barone took a report of a lost or stolen license plate from a Summit Road resident.

11:11 PM Officer Erin McGarrity responded to Municipal Lot 2 and took a report of criminal mischief.  An employee of a local business reported someone threw eggs at and in his vehicle.

10:12 AM A Verona resident reported a lost cell phone to Dispatcher McLoughlin.

1:06 PM Officer Joel Martin took a report of fraud from a Bloomfield Avenue business owner.  The owner reported upon checking his receipts he found a $100.00 counterfeit bill.

7:02 PM Officer Robert Shafer responded to a Woodland Avenue location and took a report of property damage.  Due to a rainstorm a tree fell onto the street causing damage to power lines and sidewalks.

7:22 PM Officer Michael Barone responded to a Woodland Avenue residence and took a report of property damage.  The resident reported a large tree branch fell from a neighbor’s yard and caused damage to his fence.

2:12 PM Officer William Frazee took a report of property damage from a Woodland Avenue resident.  The resident reported a large tree limb fell from a tree in a neighboring yard causing damage to his fence.  At 7:17 PM another Woodland Avenue resident also reported damage to his fence from the tree limb.
