Police activity July 21-27.

The following reports were provided by the Verona Police Department, and do not indicate a conviction.

07/22/2011

8:22 a.m. Officer Paul Watkins took a report of a dog bite from a Metuchen resident.  The resident reported while jogging he was bitten by a loose dog on Durrell Street.  The man was evaluated by the Verona Rescue Squad but refused further treatment.  The dog owner was contacted and she advised her dog was up to date with all vaccinations.

07/23/2011

12:52 PM Officer Joseph Ballantyne took a report of a larceny from a Bloomfield Avenue business. The business owner reported a large extension ladder and a display rack were taken that were located outside were taken sometime overnight.

6:10 p.m. Officer David Wardrope responded to the Pilgrim Plaza on a report of an unattended dog locked in a vehicle and concern over the high outdoor temperature. While attempting to locate the owner, a Montclair woman returned to the vehicle. She was issued a complaint for leaving her dog unattended in a vehicle under inhumane conditions.

9:50 p.m. Officer Michael Barone responded to a Linden Avenue residence and took a report of harassment.

07/24/2011

10:59 p.m. Officer Erin McGarrity responded to a Malvern Place residence on a report of an alarm sounding. Found was a smoke condition as well as a stove top on fire due to a pot left unattended while turned on.  The Verona Fire Department responded, extinguished the fire and ventilated the home.  The Verona Rescue Squad responded and evaluated a resident for smoke inhalation.

8:54 a.m. Officer William Frazee responded to a Fairview Avenue business and took a report of telephone harassment.

6:22 p.m. Officer Timothy Banta took a report of property damage due to a sewer backup at an Ozone Avenue residence. 

07/27/2011

5:45 a.m. Officer Ron Thorward responded to a Balston Drive residence and took a report of a stolen vehicle.   The resident reported hearing a noise in her garage, which was open, and upon checking observed a male driving away in her vehicle.  The vehicle information was entered into the state computer system. 

7:06 a.m. Officer William Frazee responded to a Balston Drive residence and took a report of a theft from a vehicle.  A neighbor reported observing someone enter the vehicle.  Upon checking the car, a small amount of change was missing.

8:26 a.m. Officer William Frazee responded to a Gerdes Avenue residence and took a report of an illegal entry into a vehicle.  The resident reported upon getting into his vehicle he noticed it had been gone through, with numerous glove box contents thrown on the floor.  Nothing appears to be missing at this time.

2:08 a.m. Officer William Frazee responded to a Hemlock Drive residence and took a report of an attempted fraud via an email.
