Police Blotter: Identity Theft Incidents Reported in Verona

April 27: A driver told police when he opened the door of his car in the lot at Pilgrim Plaza at 291 Pompton Ave., he dented the passenger side fender of a car parked next to him. The driver blamed a gust of wind for the dent.

April 28: A Grove Avenue business owner told police at 1:26 p.m. a man tried to open the door to her locked office. She checked the door and found the man in stairwell who said he was looking for a doctor’s office but couldn't remember the doctor’s name. The man left after a short conversation.

April 28: Police are investigating a lost wallet containing cash, credit cards and driver's license at 1:32 p.m.

April 28: A Lynwood Road resident told police at 7:04 p.m. a decorative solar landscape light was stolen from his yard. The light is valued at $90.

April 30: A Newark woman was arrested at 10:37 a.m. for shoplifting from the Kings Supermarket, 300 Pompton Ave.

Alica Levee was issued a summons and released with a May court date. 

April 30: Verona police and rescue squad officials responded at 4:14 p.m. to an injured child at the Brookdale Avenue School, 14 Brookdale Court. The child was treated for an injured shoulder and transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.

April 30: A Kenwood Avenue resident told police at 6:23 p.m. she was contacted by Macy's regarding an order placed and shipped to Florida. The resident told police she had never placed the order and found out someone used her debit card.

April 30: An East Orange man was arrested at 10:18 p.m. for an outstanding warrant from Passaic County Sheriffs Department. 

Edward Green was processed and turned over to Passaic County.

May 1: An Upland Way resident told police at 10:47 a.m. her son received a credit card rejection letter from Best Buy, but told police he never applied for a credit card.

May 1: Verona police and rescue squad officials responded to Grove Avenue at 7:04 p.m. for a person who fell. After treatment for an arm injury, the person was transported to Mountainside Hospital in Montclair.

May 2: Police reported at 1:38 p.m. an Afterglow Avenue residence was broken into. When the police arrived the front and back doors were open but there were no signs of the burglars. 

Police are investigating and the resident is compiling a list of missing items, including jewelry and camera equipment. 

May 3: A Midwood Avenue resident told police at 4:14 p.m. several charges had been made on his credit card for Internet purchases he did not make. The resident contacted the bank and canceled the charges.

May 3: Police impounded a vehicle at 3:31 p.m. after it was discovered the car was unregistered and uninsured after a motor vehicle stop for an equipment violation. The driver was issued several summonses.
