Verona Police Blotter

The following reports were prepared by the Verona Police Department and do not indicate a conviction.

9/15/2011

10:37 PM Officer David Wardrope and Anthony Condorelli arrested Donald Simmons of Wayne on an outstanding warrant from Cedar Grove Municipal Court.

10:45 PM Officers John Lecreux, Heriberto Carattini and Steve Young responded to a Linden Avenue Residence on a report of a suspicious person.  Upon arrival the resident pointed out a vehicle that was leaving the area that was involved in the incident.  The vehicle was stopped and after speaking with the resident it was determined that the subject had attempted to enter the home after identifying himself as a police officer.  The subject, Jay Helfgott of Pomona NY was arrested on charges of attempted burglary, Impersonating a police officer and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

11:24 PM Dispatcher Brian McSeveney took a report of a found wallet.

9/16/2011

2:53 PM Officer Page Parsels responded to the area of Mt. Prospect and Bloomfield on a report of a person smoking Marijuana in a motor vehicle.  The vehicle was located and stopped. After investigation Michael Giunta of State Island NY was arrested for Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Operating a MV while in Possession of CDS.

3:30 PM Office Michael Barone took a report of property damage caused by a water leak in the apartment.

7:44 PM Officer Tim Banta took a report of a burglary at a Bloomfield Avenue Residence.

8:28 PM Officer Barone responded to a Peter’s Lane residence on a report of property damage to the front door.

9/18/2011

7:43 AM Officers Anthony O’Connor and William Frazee responded to Wedgewood Drive on a report of a suspicious person.  Subject was located inside a parked vehicle going through the contents of the vehicle.  Investigation revealed the subject, Stephen Gelzer, did not have permission to be inside the vehicle.  Subject was arrested and charged with Burglary and Possession of CDS. 

9:46 PM Sgt Paul Watkins took a report of found property at a Bloomfield Avenue business.

12:08 PM Officer O’Connor took a report of a lost wallet from a Bloomfield Avenue resident

12:20 PM Officer Frazee took a report of a dispute at a Bloomfield Avenue business.

12:33 PM Officer Joseph Ballantyne took a report of Criminal Mischief at the construction site on White Rock Road.

1:25 PM Officer Joel Martin responded to a Grove Avenue business and took a report of a theft of motor vehicle parts.

9/21/2011

3:10 PM Officer Condorelli responded along with the Verona Rescue Squad to a Bloomfield Avenue business for a man who fell. After treatment he was transported to Mountainside Hospital.

6:51 PM Officer Martin arrested Anna Ambrosia on an outstanding warrant form Montclair Municipal Court.

9/22/2011

7:33 AM Officer Martin took a report of stolen auto parts from a Grove Avenue business.

10:33 AM Officer Frazee reported that a parking meter was missing from the area of 504 Bloomfield Avenue.

11:21 AM Officer Martin took a report of fraud from a Hillside Avenue resident.

3:38 PM Officer Parsels took a report of a dispute between a contractor and a homeowner over home repairs that were not completed to the homeowners satisfaction.
