Verona Police Blotter: Feb. 20 to Feb. 27

This week: Motor vehicle theft, Egged car, Neighborly disputes, Gas pumping incident

Editor’s Note: The following list of incidents comes directly from the Verona Police Department. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

2/21/2015

11:57 AM Officer Anthony Condorelli took a report of criminal mischief from a Bloomfield Avenue resident. The resident reported that when he went out to his vehicle he discovered a cracked egg along the side of the vehicle. HE also reported that several days ago someone had thrown eggs on his vehicle. The value of the damage is unknown at this time.

10:18 PM Officer Barone took a report of a motor vehicle theft at a Bloomfield Avenue business. The vehicle owner reported parking the vehicle in front of the store when he entered the store. A short time later he returned and the vehicle was missing. On 2/23/2015 the Essex County Sheriff’s Department notified Verona Police that they had located the vehicle.

11:58 AM Officer Condorelli took a report of an attempted burglary from a Newman Avenue resident. The resident reported pry marks on her front door and also reported that there were footprints in the fresh snow on her front walkway and stairs. No entry was made to the house and the value of the damage is unknown at this time.

2/23/2015

4:01 PM Officer Thomas Conroy impounded a vehicle for abandonment that was parked on Stevens Avenue for several days. A summons was mailed to the registered owner.

4:15 PM Lt. Chris Kiernan took a report of verbal harassment form a Wedgewood Drive resident. The resident reported that she was speaking to a male in the parking lot who appeared suspicious when the superintendent of the complex began cursing at her. All parties were advised of complaint procedures.

11:06 PM Officer Alyssa Kirby took a report of a dispute on Wedgewood Drive. The resident reported having a dispute with her downstairs neighbor over the exterior door to the building being locked. Both parties were advised of complaint procedures.

2/24/2015

7:48 AM Officer Condorelli took a report of a found wallet. The owner was located and responded to pick up her property.

8:04 AM Officer Condorelli took a report of property damage from a Woodland Avenue resident. The resident reported while at a gas station on Bloomfield Avenue she thought the attendant had removed the nozzle from her vehicle and pulled away from the pump. The nozzle was still in her car and damage was caused to the vehicle and gas pump. The value of the damage is unknown at this time.

9:05 AM Officer Condorelli arrested Tyler Collins of Wayne on an outstanding warrant from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. After processing he was turned over to the Sheriff’s Department.

8:24 PM Officer Steve Young took a report of a theft of a cell phone from a Clifton resident. The resident reported he dropped his cell phone while in the Pilgrim Plaza. He used the Find my Phone App to locate the phone which gave him a location in Montclair where the phone was located. Montclair Police were notified to check the area for the phone. Value of the phone is $300.

10:27 PM Officer Chris Scheper responded along with the Verona Rescue squad to a report of a person who fell on Geddes Avenue. After treatment for a leg injury the victim was transported to Mountainside Hospital.

2/25/2015

3:33 PM Officer Young took a report of a suspicious person from a Douglas Place resident. The resident reported he observed a silver 2 door vehicle with Georgia registration driving slowly down his street. The vehicle then turned around and stopped by his house and the operator was observed taking pictures of his house. When the resident went outside the car quickly left the area.

4:10 PM Officer Barone arrested Richard Carroll of Verona on an outstanding warrant from the Verona Municipal Court. After processing he was released with a pending court date.
