Verona Sees Multiple Fraud Cases, Including IRS and Credit Card: Police

Several cases of alleged fraud were reported in Verona last week, including IRS and credit card-related incidents.

Verona, NJ – Verona police stated that several cases of fraud were reported in the township last week.

Incidents included:

  • Feb. 19 - Sgt. Robert Shafer took a report of fraud from a Forest Avenue resident. The resident reported that the IRS alerted him that an unknown person attempted to file a return using his information. The resident has been in touch with the IRS and was provided with identity theft information.
  • Feb. 20 - Office Brendan Huber took a report of a fraud from an Upland Way resident. The resident reported that a credit card was opened using her maiden name and a previous address. The resident has been in contact with the credit card company and the account has been closed. The resident was provided with identity theft information.
  • Feb. 22 - Officer Robert Juliano took a report of a fraud from a Sunset Avenue resident. The resident reported that she discovered an unknown person had filed a tax return using her information. She has been in touch with Turbo Tax where the original fraudulent return was filed. The resident was provided with identity theft information.
  • Feb. 25 - Officer William Frazee took a report of a fraud from a Kips Ridge resident. The resident reported that she observed several unauthorized transactions on her bank statement. The resident has been in contact with the bank and they have closed her account. She was provided with identity theft information.
