In Verona: Stolen Mink Coats, Home Burglary, Dispute with Contractor, Suspicious Text Messages

Police Blotter: May 8 to 15

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are taken directly from the Verona Police Blotter, which may not include the full scope of police activity in the area. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

5/9/2015

12:30 AM - Officer Robert Juliano responded to a noise complaint on Woodland Avenue. Upon arrival he observed a male throw something on the ground and heard glass shatter. The male then entered a car which left the area. The vehicle was stopped and the occupants were asked about the broken bottle. The rear passenger, Alessandro Del Barba admitted breaking the bottle. He was issued a summons for littering.

5/10/2015

4:22 PM - Officer Mike Barone took a report of a burglary at a Grove Avenue residence. The resident reported it appears that entry was gained into the home through a basement window. The resident is compiling a list of missing items.

5/11/2015

10:02 PM - Officer Barone took a report of a dispute from a Halsted Street resident. The resident reported he had hired a contractor to do work on his steps. The contractor was paid but the resident is not happy with the work. He has not been able to reach the contractor to have the work completed to his satisfaction. He was advised of complaint procedures.

5/12/2015

1:21 AM - Lt Steve Depoe observed a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Brentwood Drive residence with the driver’s door open. Contact was made with the owner and he reported that when he last saw the vehicle at 9 p.m., the door of the vehicle was closed. Nothing appears to be missing from the vehicle.

11:36 AM - Officer Anthony Condorelli took a report of an attempted fraud form a Morningside Road resident. The resident reported receiving several suspicious text messages, one of which asked for her credit card information. She was provided with identity theft information.

12:48 PM - Officer Joe Ballantyne took a report of property damage from a Linden Avenue resident. The resident reported that while a tree company was working at her neighbor’s house a branch fell onto her garage. The value of the damage is unknown at this time.

5/13/2015

2 PM - Officer Condorelli arrested Steven Salerno of Caldwell on an outstanding warrant form the Verona Municipal Court. After processing, bail was posted and the subject was released.

6:49 PM - Officer Barone took a report of a suspicious person from a Vincent Place resident. The resident reported a male had come to her home and began banging on the front door. The male stated he was there to pick something up. When the resident refused to open the door he left the area and walked toward Pompton Avenue.

5/14/2015

11:01 PM - Officer Erin McGarrity took a report of a burglary from a Claridge Drive resident. The resident reported that sometime over the past several months, two mink coats were stolen from her residence. Value of items is $8,000.
