Visions for Vacancies: What Should Take The Place of Cinema 23?
Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.

Cinema 23 has been closed for nearly two years now on Rt. 23 near the Staples and Party Fair in the Pilgrim Plaza Shopping Center in Cedar Grove.
Similar to the Clairidge Theatre in Montclair, the theater, located at 101 Pompton Ave. across from the Pilgrim Diner, still had lines for midnight releases of movies like Harry Potter, competing with the AMC in West Orange and the Lowes AMC in Wayne.
The landlords, the Diener Family Partnership, have not made any progress leasing the property, and were unavailable for comment.

Here's the fun part: Forget what zone it’s in. Ignore setback regulations, as well as dump lot coverage rules and all the other zoning jargon that puts most people to sleep.
Our bottom line: If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use of the space for the community?
To make this work, this can’t be a one-sided conversation. We want to hear from you in our comments section. And, please, let us know if there’s a vacant space/building you know of as well we can feature in a future column.
Send emails about vacant buildings or stores to Essex County Associate Regional Editor Jack Durschlag at jack.durschlag@patch.com.
About this column: Visions For Vacancies is a Patch feature where you, our readers, tell us what type of business or businesses you want to see in vacant stores or buildings.
