📰 News we're reading

1. NJ appoints monitor at Elwyn, a large group home company (njherald.com) — State officials have placed an independent monitor over Elwyn's New Jersey group homes after a Vineland resident with developmental disabilities was twice left on the floor for hours at a local facility. While criminal charges against the company were dropped, Elwyn must fund the monitor, follow new safety and staffing requirements, and has only recently regained permission to accept new residents, directly affecting Vineland families relying on these services.

2. How Trout -- with help from Tiger Woods -- built his golf course (mlb.com) — Vineland is now home to Trout National – The Reserve, a private golf course Mike Trout built with Tiger Woods' design firm on former mining and farmland in his hometown. The course, which opened April 15, brings national attention and new activity to the area, blending Trout's baseball legacy with local pride and potentially boosting Southern New Jersey's golf and hospitality scene.

3. NJ Officer Misused Police Computers For Information, Prosecutor Says (patch.com) — A Vineland police officer has been charged with computer criminal activity for allegedly using law-enforcement databases to look up information on three people without proper authorization. The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office says the case began with an internal discovery by Vineland Police, and the officer remains listed as an employee while awaiting a September court appearance. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact investigators.

4. Arrests Made In Millville Double Murder: Prosecutor (dailyvoice.com) — Authorities have arrested two men in connection with a Millville shooting that killed Ashley Brown of Millville and Andy Steven Brazil of Vineland. Prosecutors say the victims were found in a vehicle on North High Street early August 16, and both suspects now face homicide and weapons charges. An adult woman and a girl in the vehicle were not physically injured.

5. Another One Gone: HelloFresh Cuts 374 N.J. Jobs on Sherrill's Watch - (savejersey.com) — Vineland workers are among those hit as 139 jobs are being cut at Gerresheimer's local facility, part of a broader wave of corporate layoffs across New Jersey. The story centers on HelloFresh closing its Swedesboro center but also tallies thousands of recent job losses statewide, while Republican leaders blame state policies for making New Jersey too costly for employers.
