2018 Wall Police Coaster Derby Canceled

The derby, which runs like a giant Pinewood Derby, was resurrected in 2006 after some years off.

WALL, NJ — Drivers, shut off your engines. The 13th annual Wall Township Police Coaster Derby that was set to be run this Saturday, Oct. 20, has been canceled.

Wall Township police posted the cancellation announcement on the department's website. The reason for the cancellation has not been given.

The derby was resurrected in 2006 after not being held for several years, and allowed kids ages 7 through 13 to race cars 700 feet on a straight, inclined race course on Industrial Road in Wall.

Drivers rely solely on gravity to propel their derby cars from the starting ramp to the finish line and competitors race side-by-side in two lanes in the timed event, like a giant Pinewood Derby (for those of you who are familiar with the Cub Scouts program).

There was no mention of a rescheduling.
