3 Escape Serious Injuries In Head-On Crash, Jeep Fire: Wall PD

WALL, NJ — Two teenagers and an adult escaped a fiery crash on Wednesday with only one suffering a minor injury, Wall Township police said Thursday.

The crash happened on Belmar Boulevard near the Garden State Parkway shortly before 6 p.m., Wall Capt. Greg Carpino said.

A 17-year-old boy from Farmingdale was driving a Jeep Wrangler west on Belmar Boulevard approaching the entrance to the Garden State Parkway, when a Ford Escape being driven by a 47-year-old woman from Wall turned left directly in front of the Jeep, Carpino said. The vehicles collided head on and the Jeep flipped over, coming to a rest in front of a utility pole, where the Jeep then caught fire, Carpino said.

The 17-year-old and his passenger, a 16-year-old girl from Freehold, escaped from the fire, which was being extinguished by the Glendola Fire Department when police arrived, he said.

Belmar Boulevard was closed between Schoolhouse Road and Woodfield Road for about an hour, he said.

The person who was injured was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by Wall EMS, Carpino said. He did not specify who was injured.

The Monmouth County Road Department and JCP&L also responded. Patrolman Zach Honecker is the investigating officer.
