Drivers headed to coastal areas of Monmouth County this morning should exercise care in low-lying areas, as a coastal flood advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service.

The service issued a coastal flood advisory for coastal areas of New Jersey Monday morning as the state begins to feel the effects of an oncoming nor’easter, according to the NWS website.

High tide is expected to occur around 8 a.m., with tides as much as 7 feet higher than normal. The coastal flood watch will remain in place through the duration of the nor’easter, the service says.

Inland areas will feel a bigger impact later Monday and into Tuesday as heavy rain is expected to begin this evening and continue through Tuesday, as the nor’easter moves in, according to the National Weather Service. The very northwestern corner of New Jersey could see some snow in this storm, forecasters say, but most of the snow is expected to stay west and north of the state, as temperatures are expected to stay in the 40s.
