Driver Freed After Live Wires Drape Vehicle Following Neptune Crash: Police

Breaking: Jumping Brook Road remains closed while a snapped utility pole is replaced, Neptune police said.

NEPTUNE, NJ — (Updated, 1:30 p.m.) Jumping Brook Road remains closed as authorities continue to investigate and clean up a motor vehicle accident that snapped a utility pole late Monday morning, Neptune Township police said.

A are urging motorists to avoid the area of Route 66 and Jumping Brook Road after a motor vehicle accident brought down a transformer at the intersection.

A maroon SUV hit a utility pole just north of the youth baseball complex on Jumping Brook Road, snapping a the pole completely off its base and knocking it into the middle of the road, police said. Live wires from the pole trapped the driver inside the SUV until crews from Jersey Central Power and Light were able to shut off power to the lines, Neptune police said. They did not say how long the driver was stuck; police first tweeted about the crash about 11:45 a.m. and tweeted photos that the driver had been freed about 1:15 p.m.

Jumping Brook Road remains closed from Route 66 to Waverly Road, Neptune police say, while JCP&L crews replace the utility pole.

The downed lines knocked out power to the surrounding area, including the traffic light at Route 66 and Jumping Brook Road, which resulted in a temporary closure of Route 66 in the area.
