WALL, NJ — An engine fire that destroyed a Ford Explorer forced authorities to close Route 138 for about 45 minutes on Monday, Wall police said. There were no injuries.

The fire happened about 4:30 p.m., Wall Capt. Greg Carpino said. The driver of the 2006 Ford Explorer was headed east on Route 138 when the vehicle started to smoke, he said. The driver pulled over near Allenwood Road and discovered a fire in the engine compartment.
