Man Identified In Armed Robbery Of Gas Station

Daniel J. Popo of Long Branch is wanted in connection with the robbery that occurred Tuesday night, police said.

Just hours after his photo circulated on social media, a suspect has been identified in the armed robbery of a gas station Tuesday night in Wall Township, police said Wednesday afternoon.

Arrests warrant have been issued for Daniel J. Popo, 52, of Long Branch, Wall Township Detective Pete Lokerson said, on charges of armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He is believed to be driving a gray 2014 Ford Escape sport utility vehicle, Lokerson said.

Popo is accused of approaching an attendant at the Exxon, at Route 35 and 18th Avenue in Wall at about 8 p.m. Tuesday, brandishing a handgun and demanding cash, before taking off in what was described as a silver mid-sized SUV, Lokerson said.
