NJ Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Elects Dr. Elisa Velazquez

Dr Elisa Velazquez, local pediatric dentist in Toms River & Manahawkin from Ocean Pediatric Dental Associates, has been elected the president of the state organization for all pediatric dentists (NJAPD). Dr Velazquez owns a 2 location pediatric dental practice and has volunteered countless hours to organized dentistry. She currently serves as the Chair of Governmental Affairs for the NJ Dental Association, Chair of Peer Review for Pediatric Dentistry and will now serve as President for NJAPD while maintaining patient visit hours in her private offices.

“It is truly an honor to serve my peers in pediatric dentistry for our state organization. We are committed to the oral health issues of all children in the State of New Jersey” states Dr Velazquez.

The mission of the NJ Academy of Pediatric Dentistry is to advocate optimal oral health for infants, children, adolescents/teenagers and persons with special needs.

Pediatric dentistry is the specialty of dentistry that focuses on the oral health of young people. After completing a four-year dental school curriculum, two to three additional years of rigorous training are required to become a pediatric dentist. This specialized program of study and hands-on experience prepares pediatric dentists to meet the needs of infants, children and adolescents, including persons with special health care needs. Pediatric Dentists are the pediatricians of dentistry.

The organization provides continuing education, updates on advances in pediatric dentistry, dental materials, legislation and issues to better serve all of the children in NJ. “The goal is for every child in NJ to have a dental home- a relationship with a dental office by age 1,” states Dr Elisa. Prevention and education are paramount for great oral health starting at a young age.
