N.J. State Trooper Charged With DWI After Crash

In addition to DWI, Michael Roadside had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, police said.

A New Jersey State Trooper who crashed on the Garden State Parkway Monday is facing driving while intoxicated charges, police said.

State Police charged the trooper with DWI after an alcohol-related crash on the Garden State Parkway at approximately 2 p.m. on Monday

Troopers responded to a minor crash in the Monmouth rest area between a marked troop car that struck the rear of a white Audi. There were no injuries, but SFC Michael Roadside, a 28-year trooper, was charged with DWI, careless driving, and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.

He was immediately relieved of his duty weapon and taken in to custody.

The incident is pending court and a parallel internal investigation has been started. Roadside was officially suspended without pay. He had been previously working a construction detail before the incident occurred, police said.
