Ordnance Disposal At Earle Shakes Monmouth County Homes

Police said the sound of explosions prompted emergency calls.

WALL, NJ — Demolition operations at Naval Weapons Station Earle on Friday prompted emergency calls to Wall Township police from residents who heard the explosions, police said.

Police were called to the area of 18th Avenue and Allenwood Road shortly after 11:30 a.m. for a report of multiple consecutive loud explosions, Wall Lt. Greg Carpino said.

No signs of smoke or fire were seen by the responding officers and there were no reported power outages, Carpino said.

Naval Weapons Station Earle had announced on Facebook that an ordnance disposal team was conducting demolition operations between 10 a.m. to noon Friday, he said.

"Due to the overcast weather, the noise may have been louder and traveled further," Carpino said. "The reports of loud explosions that the Wall Township Police Department responded to today are believed to be related to these demolition operations."
