Opposition to the proposed school bus depot on Bailys Corner Road at 18th Avenue

The residents of Allaire County Club Estates received the following notice from its management company on January 25, 2018 regarding the proposed school bus depot at Bailys Corner and 18th Avenue:

"First, with respect to the discussions by Wall Township Board of Education on their plan to construct a school bus depot on Baily’s Corner Road, your Board had previously promised Allaire’s residents that we would update you as soon as we received any new information from the Board of Education. Following an email to the Board of Education (as we regularly do) asking if there were any new updates, please see the information we just received late yesterday from the Board of Education which seems to indicate that the Wall Board of Ed. Is proceeding with their plan."

..."At the Wall BOE Workshop meeting held on Tuesday, January 16, 2017, the Board discussed a Statement of Probable Costs (Preliminary Budget Estimate) that was provided by Edwards Engineering Group, the firm hired to perform a feasibility study for the proposed School Bus Compound. I included an estimate for professional fees and miscellaneous fees for permits, reviews, and connections for a site development cost of approximately $2,575,000. It was noted that the cost to renovate an existing building at the site is not included in the site work estimate. I have attached a copy of the statement for your reference.

Please know that the Board directed me to solicit proposals from engineering firms to perform the design, bid document preparation, and construction administration for the project. The Request for Proposals has not been advertised yet but will be in the next few weeks. The timeline discussed for the project anticipates budgeting for the project in the 2018-19 School Budget, awarding a contract for professional services by June of 2018, and completing construction by July of 2019.

I will provide a schematic drawing of the proposed School Bus Compound in the near future so that you can share same with your residents. Please also know that in addition to pursuing this option, the district is looking at alternative options, including other properties for rent/purchase to house our school buses."

Other sites under consideration include space available at InfoAge. With the current depot located in a more commercial zone on Old Mill Road behind K-Mart, and the availability of land at the former Camp Evan site, it seems there are more logical places to construct a commercial parking field than in the middle of a rural, residential area.

I encourage all local residents to attend this meeting below to voice their opposition

Please note the meeting information below:

Date: Tuesday, February 13, 2018

Time for Open Session: 7:30 PM

Place: Wall Intermediate School, 2801 Allaire Road
