Wall Police Invite You To Have Coffee With A Cop

The program on Friday aims to give residents and police a chance to get to know each other in a relaxed setting, police said.

WALL, NJ — Wall Township Police want YOU ... to join them for coffee on Friday.

Wall Township police officers aim to come together with community members on Friday, Dec. 9, "in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee," Detective Lt. Greg Carpino said.

The Coffee with a Cop will begin at 9 a.m. Friday and is being held at Whole Foods, located at 1933 Route 35 in Wall.

"The majority of contact law enforcement has with the public happens during emergencies, or emotional situations," he said. "Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street."

Coffee with a Cop aims to break down the barriers and create relaxed, one-on-one interaction, he said.

“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” Wall Police Chief Robert Brice said. “These interactions are the foundation of community
partnerships.”

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.
