Warren Student wins New Jersey Juniors Regional Spelling Bee

Alan Kohler, from Warren, won the New Jersey Juniors Northern Regional Spelling Bee, after outspelling 32 fourth- and fifth-graders representing Morris, Sussex and Somerset counties.

Alan had been the winner of the  Junior Women's Club of Somerset Hills Spelling Bee, and had gone on to represent the club in the regional bee, along with  Francesca Tannenbaum, of Bedminster, and Mallika Negi, of Bedminster.

Alan will next compete in the New Jersey Juniors State bee in March, held at the New Jersey State Federation Headquarters.

The Northern Regional Spelling Bee consisted of fourth and fifth graders who had won spelling bees held by Junior Women's Clubs in the Highlands, Palisades, and Ramapo District. All clubs are members of the Greater Federation of Women's Clubs. The Junior Women's Club of Somerset Hills has been serving the communities of Bedminster,Warren, Bernardsville, Basking Ridge, Far Hills, and Peapack Gladstone for over 80 years, and has been hosting a local spelling bee for eight years.

 The lullaby CD "Sing Me to Sleep", supporting the Valerie Fund was sold at both spelling bees, since the Valerie Fund is the state project for all New Jersey Junior Clubs.
