The Watchung Hills football team opened its season with a hard-fought 20-14 loss to North Hunterdon Friday night in Annandale. Junior quarterback Tommy Giaimo threw two touchdown passes to keep the Warriors in the game until the end, but North Hunterdon scored three long touchdowns to record the victory. Andrew Gildenberg (17 yards) and Frank Urso (20 yards) scored the touchdowns and Urso added a pair of extra points.

The Warriors came out fired up for their season opener, hoping to start the season off on the right foot. As the game went on, their spirit allowed them to twice cut two-touchdown deficits in half.

WARRIOR OF THE GAME
Tough one, because so many players contributed. In the first quarter alone, 10 different players recorded tackles. In that quarter, junior defensive back Anthony Prus had an interception, two passes defensed and three tackles. Prus also had four carries for 16 yards in the second half, including an eight-yard run for a first down on the Warriors' second touchdown drive.

TOP PERFORMANCES
RUSHING—Junior Charlie Perruso had 55 yards on nine carries.
PASSING—Junior Tommy Gaiamo completed six passes for 106 yards. Every completion was for at least 12 yards.
RECEIVING—Junior Frank Urso caught three passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.
DEFENSE—Senior Chris George had seven tackles. Junior Anthony Prus had an interception.
TOUGH OPPONENT
The Lions' three long touchdowns came on a 49-yard pass play from Colin Macri to Terry Popa, a 43-yard run by TJ Marron and a 35-yard run by Eddie Delia.
