Mertz Powers Warriors Past Bridgewater-Raritan

Sophomore catcher Dana Mertz scores three runs to help lead the Watchung Hills past the Panthers.

Watchung Hills pounded out 13 hits and five runs to cruise to a key Skyland Conference Delaware Division victory

Sophomore catcher Dana Mertz went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs, and sophomore right-hander Abby Cline improved to 4-0 with a five-hitter, as the Warriors pounded out 13 hits and scored a 5-1 road victory over the Panthers at North Bridge Street Park in Bridgewater.
Shortstop Jordan Stephenson provided all the offense for Bridgewater-Raritan, hitting a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning.

WARRIOR OF THE GAME
Dana Mertz – The sophomore led off the second and fourth innings with a double, and delivered a one-out two-run double in the fifth inning to give Watchung Hills a three-run lead.

Other Key Performances—Abby Cline (Watchung Hills) – Cline turned in another dazzling pitching performance, as the sophomore stayed undefeated from the circle. She allowed one run on just five hits, walked one and struck out eight. Cline also singled and scored a run in the victory.

McKayla Brady (Watchung Hills) – The freshman left fielder went 2-for-2 with a walk, and her second-inning RBI single gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

Jamie Schoenbach (Watchung Hills) – The senior center fielder collected two hits and scored a run.

 – Warriors catcher Dana Mertz on her team’s five-run, 13-hit outburst against Bridgewater-Raritan. Watchung Hills had not scored more than three runs in a game since April 6 against Ridge.
