Monument's Granite Towers Delivered

Township moves closer to realizing Sept. 11 memorial.

The two 11,000-lb. granite columns that will serve as the base for Warren Township's Sept. 11 memorial were delivered Monday.

The columns will echo the silhouette of the World Trade Towers destroyed in the terrrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and will  that . 

The project has been underway for about two years, paid for by donations from community groups such as the Warren Township PBA, Marion Associates and . More than $12,000 has been donated so far, and additional donations are welcomed.

The project has also benefitted from donations from groups including the Warren Lions Club, and companies such as United Crane Rentals, of Kenilworth, which provided a crane to unload the granite columns.

The columns will be erected at 10 a.m. Nov. 4.

Delivery of the granite comes just ahead of the township's 9/11 Memorial Service, scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 11. The event will include a brief memorial service at the flagpole of the to remember all those who lost their lives during the Sept. 11 attacks.  The ceremony will be officiated by Mayor Carolann Garafola and local clergy, with members of the Warren Township Police Department, Warren Township Fire Department and Warren Township Rescue Squad attending.
