Popular Car Show Returns to Warren

The ice cream truck of the '50s was a bit different than the rumbling wagons cruising neighborhood streets today—from the chrome bumpers to the polish on the saleman's shoes, they were impressive sights.

At least, they were in the neighborhood Tommy Marazzo's parents grew up in—and since Marazzo's father and grandfather were the ice cream salesmen, the family has kept their vintage ice cream setup intact.

It's one of the special exhibits visitors will enjoy, Sept. 9. 

The show, one of the largest in New Jersey, draws as many as 400 vehicles, including sports cars, race cars, cars painted British racing green and Cadillac coral pink. Luxury cars from the '50s and '60s with options you can't get in today's Lexus, and cars with wooden panels.

If you have a favorite car from the past, odds are you'll see at least one, or if you're a Corvette or Mustang fan, many restored versions at the show. There will be a periodic starting of race car engines, sending a thunderous roar throughout the venue.

The car show is a major fundraiser for the fire department, too, helping to provide crucial funds for fire fighting equipment. Admission and parking are free—but your donations will supplement the fees collected from the car show entries.  

The show will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the ball fields behind the . A group of professional judges with many years of car show experience will be evaluating the entries, judging the vehicles from 10 a.m. –1 p.m. with an awards ceremony at approximately 2:45 p.m.

Trophies will be awarded in 32 classes, including a class for fire trucks. 

The day should be a nostalgic and fun filled one for families, car enthusiasts and those who just want to travel back in time to the days when life was simpler. Renowned radio disc jockey “Golden Gup” Gus Gasciogne will be spinning tunes from the '50s and '60s and providing entertainment throughout the day. Food vendors will be set up to sell hamburgers, hot dogs and other food and beverages. There will also be a 50/50 drawing to benefit the fire department.
