Rally For Women’s Reproductive Rights To Be Held In Warren On Saturday

The rally is hosted by Warren Democratic candidates Nichelle Santos and Ilana Goldstein-Barsky along with NOW New Jersey.

WARREN, NJ — A rally for women’s reproductive rights will be held in Warren on Saturday in response to Texas' actions to ban abortions.

The rally is being led by Democratic candidates for Warren Township Committee Nichelle Santos and Ilana Goldstein-Barsky, who will be speaking at the rally.

"We'll be speaking to amplify the voice of women and girls to end disparities in health, equity and breaking the glass ceiling," said Santos.

It started out as Goldstein-Barsky and Santos hosting the event and then the National Organization For Women (NOW) of New Jersey and the Planned Parenthood Action Network Fund are joining their efforts.

"It started out as something to show our support for women of Texas but now other states are coming out with restrictions," said Goldstein-Barsky. "This is really for women to have safe affordable abortions and this decision should be made between a woman and her doctor."

The Texas law, signed by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in May, prohibits abortions once medical professionals can detect cardiac activity, usually around six weeks and before many women know they're pregnant. Read More: In 5-4 Vote, Supreme Court Leaves Texas Abortion Law In Place

The rally will be held at the Warren Township Municipal Complex at 44 Mountain Blvd. in Warren at 2 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring signs, masks and water.

Goldstein-Barsky stressed that anyone can attend the rally. "It's an everyone issue, not Democrat or Republican," said Goldstein-Barsky.

"We all know what happens without Roe v Wade - women suffer and women die," said Goldstein-Barsky. "It's the 21st century. It's ridiculous we even have to stand up for something like this."
