"Silk City" Comes to the Watchung Arts Center
Acoustic trio appears with Mary Olive Smith of "Reckon So"

On Saturday, October 10 at 8PM, the Watchung Arts Center brings together performers from two outstanding acoustic groups, Silk City and Reckon So for an evening of great tunes, hot picking, dynamic vocals and an irresistible mix of Bluegrass, rockin’ Honky Tonk, American Roots, County and Western Swing.
Silk City is a string band with a sound as unique as their repertoire. Mandolin, guitar and bass blend in a breathtaking variety of styles including hard-driving bluegrass, wide-ranging ethnic music, sparkling original vocals and instrumentals and audience favorites like the “Wizard of Oz Medley”. The band features ex-Skyline mates Barry Mitterhoff on mandolin (Hot Tuna), guitarist Danny Weiss (who’s played with Vassar Clements, Tex Logan & David Bromberg) and bassist Larry Cohen who provides the solid foundation with his lyrical playing and incomparable musicianship, The trio combines exciting, interesting arrangements and meticulous delivery with a hard-hitting sound that will enrapture acoustic music lovers.
This performance brings them together with Mary Olive Smith, co-leader, with Danny Weiss, of Reckon So. Danny and Mary Olive’s natural connection on stage and the combination of their smooth duet singing and hot picking always make for an exciting, entertaining show. Their voices blend beautifully and seamlessly whether it’s roots music of the Carter Family, the Louvin Bros. or Hank Williams, the country inflections of George Jones and Tammy Wynette or Kitty Wells, or the high lonesome bluegrass sound of Bill Monroe or the Stanley Brothers.
A wonderful evening of music is in store for all. The evening will include a dessert reception, with an opportunity to meet the performers.
Tickets are $16 in advance, $20 ($18 WAC members, $10 students) at the door. Tickets may be purchased online at watchungartscenter.eventbrite.com.
