Varnerin's Play Keys Victory Over Union

Girls volleyball squad picks up second straight win.

The Watchung Hills Regional High School women’s volleyball team defeated Union High School in Warren on Wednesday evening, winning two sets to none.

The Warriors played a fundamentally sound ball game from the opening serve.  In the first set, Watchung fell behind 2-0 before ripping off six straight points.  Trailing late in the set 19-18, the Warriors got seven of the next nine points to steal the first set.  In the second set, Watchung dominated.  They jumped out to a 7-2 lead and never looked back.  They led by as many as 10 points and finished off the second set 25-15, to improve their record to 2-4 on the season.

Alex Varnerin—The junior middle blocker made numerous plays at the net, including several blocks of the Union attack as well as multiple kills from the offensive end. The junior middle blocker made numerous plays all game including, 4 kills, 2.5 blocks, 2 aces, and 1 dig.

Dana Disarno – The junior setter played her role perfectly, notching 19 assists, 1 kill, and 2 digs.
