Warren Quadriplegic Pays It Forward To Others With Spinal Cord Injury

The Aid for Quaid Motorcycle Run will host a ride on Saturday, May 14 to raise money and awareness of spinal cord injury

Warren, NJ -- It was the night before his sister’s wedding when Quaid Mobus’ life would change forever.

On Sept. 20, 2013, Warren local Mobus headed out to ride his quad on a trail that night.

ā€œI took a trail in the middle of nowhere in the middle of Pennsylvania,ā€ Mobus told Patch. ā€œThere was no light on the trail, all I had was one dinky, little headlight on my quad. I got around a turn in second gear and hit a drainage ditch. That’s when I flipped my quad and it sent me for ride.ā€

But Mobus doesn’t remember any of that. All he remembers is waking up in the hospital a couple of weeks later.

A medivac had transported Mobus to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia where he was determined to be a quadriplegic.

He stayed at the hospital for four weeks and then when he was stable he was transported to West Orange for two months where he worked on physical therapy.

ā€œI had to adjust to this new life,ā€ Mobus, who is 24 now, said.

It wasn’t until Jan. 17, 2014 when Mobus would return to his Warren home in a wheel chair.

With medical expenses mounting, the Michael Bruce Fund came to the rescue to help offset supplies and anything Mobus needed in his recovery.

Paying this generosity forward, Mobus and his family created their own fund, Quaid Mobus Fund, to pass any donations onto others suffering from spinal cord injuries.

Aid for Quaid Motorcycle Run

Mobus is hosting his annual ā€œAid for Quaidā€ Motorcycle Run on Saturday, May 14Ā at the Washington Valley Fire Department on Washington Valley Road in Warren. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and kick stands up at 11 a.m. Bikers will ride throughout Warren along with fire trucks and meet at the Watchung Hills Elk's at 1 Elks Trail in Warren for a picnic from noon to 6 p.m.

The event will include live music, food and beverage and vendors. Donation is $20 at the door. All proceeds to the Quaid Mobus Fund.

Quaid's Army

Along with the ride, Mobus also has a 5K race in the fall and most recently has created an army.

Mobus’ friends heard from his aunt that he used to love playing with the toy army men as a child. So his friends started sending out the army men with #QuaidsArmy on the bottom to raise awareness about spinal cord injury.

ā€œYou can take them with you all over the world,ā€ Mobus said. ā€œTake them and take a picture and post on Instagram with the hashtag and leave it at the spot and people will see hashtag and go to website to raise awareness on spinal cord injury.ā€

The army men have been to Paris, Indonesia, New Zealand, California, Hawaii, South America and more.

One person even launched an army man from a weather balloon 15,000 feet in the air.
