55 Lives Saved in Somerset County Using Narcan in 2015

Narcan is used to combat heroin and other opiate drug overdoses in emergency situations

Taking a look at the numbers for 2015, a total of 55 lives were saved in Somerset County when police administered Narcan (Naloxone) to combat heroin and other opiate drug overdoses in emergency situations.

Since August of 2014 all departments in Somerset County have been trained on how to administer Narcan.

While 55 successful saves occurred countywide in 2015, it is unknown how many lives were lost since some go directly to the hospital without notifying police, said Jack Bennet, press officer for the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
