6 DWI, Marijuana Possession Arrests Made In Green Brook

A total of six people were arrested for driving while intoxicated or marijuana possession charges recently in Green Brook, police report.

GREEN BROOK, NJ — A total of six people were arrested for driving while intoxicated or marijuana possession charges recently in Green Brook, police report.

Green Brook Police Blotter:

On Sept. 1: An officer of the Green Brook Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle swerve onto the shoulder of Route 22. During the stop, the officer detected an odor of marijuana. As a result of his observations and subsequent investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Dhimas Frias, 20, of Hillside was arrested for possession of marijuana under 50 grams, obstructed view and failure to maintain lanes.

On Sept. 1: An officer of the Green Brook Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. During the stop, the driver, Grace Naser, 19, of South Plainfield, attempted to conceal her identity, and was found to be in possession of marijuana. As a result of the officer’s observations and subsequent investigation, Naser was arrested for possession of marijuana less than 50 grams and providing false information to the officers. She was also charged with disregard of stop sign, driving while suspended, unlicensed driver, failure to possess driver's license, operating a motor vehicle while in possession of a narcotic and improper use of high beams.

On Sept. 2: An officer of the Green Brook Police Department observed a vehicle on Warrenville Road without its headlights on and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Due to his observations and further investigation during the stop, the driver, Joseph N. Gitau, 51, of Somerset was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with careless driving, operating under the influence of liquor or drugs, refuse to submit to a breath test, proper light equipment, reckless driving and registrations.

On Sept. 4: An officer of the Green Brook Police Department observed a vehicle on Route 22 west with its high beams on and swerving in the lanes. The officer initiated a motor vehicle stop and conducted an interview with the driver, Precious J. Saunders, 24, of Plainfield. Due to his observations and further investigation during the stop, Saunders was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Saunders was also charged with operating the vehicle under the influence of liquor or drugs, refuse to submit to a breath test, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving and careless driving.

On Sept. 8: An officer of the Green Brook Police Department observed a vehicle on Route 22 make an illegal turn onto Warrenville Road. The officer initiated a motor vehicle stop and conducted an interview with the driver, Kenya B. Johnson, 25, of East Orange. Due to his investigation during the stop, Johnson was arrested for hindering apprehension. Johnson was also charged with driving with a driver's license, driving while suspended and careless driving.

On Sept. 14: An officer of the Green Brook Police Department conducted a foot patrol of Washington State Park after sunset. During the patrol, the officer detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from an area occupied by two suspects. As a result of the officer’s observations and subsequent investigation, one of the suspects, Steven A. Parente, 24, of Middlesex, was arrested for possession of marijuana under 50 grams and drug paraphernalia.
