Affected by Cancer?

It's a sad truth, but it's hard to find anybody NOT affected by cancer in someway - maybe you were recently diagnosed or maybe you are in remission.  Perhaps you served as a Caregiver to someone with cancer?  Or maybe you lost a loved one to the disease?

Whatever your experience, I am sure it sparked a desire to END cancer once and for all - to do anything and everything to help prevent yourself or a loved one from ever having to hear the words "you have cancer". 

You might have felt alone in your experience - like nobody could understand.  Maybe you relied on loved ones - or sometimes strangers - to help you through the worst of days.  Maybe you are still looking for hope?

The American Cancer Society has felt all of these emotions and needs.  We know what it can feel like to be diagnosed with cancer - we also know the pride of being a Survivor.  We have cared for family and friends with the disease - and we know the power of the support of someone caring for us.  We have lost people we care deeply about - and we know the healing power of treasuring memories.  We have the passion to end cancer - and we know that we cannot give up the fight until we find a cure!

That is why we host Relay For Life each year across the country - including in the Watchung community on Friday, June 14th at Watchung Hills Regional High School.  Relay For Life offers something for everybody regardless of what they are looking for - a way to join the fight, inspiration, hope, remembrance...

And we invite you to join us - as a Survivor, as a Caregiver, as somebody who wants to END cancer once and for all.  Survivors have a chance to be CELEBRATED during our 6pm Survivor Lap and then mingle with other local survivors during our complimentary Survivor Dinner.  Those who have lost someone to cancer will have the opportunity to honor and remember that person during our Luminaria Ceremony at 9pm.

Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight team event representing the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.  A representative from each team is walking or running around the track at all times through the night to represent the fact that “cancer never sleeps”.  In addition, there are activities for people of all ages during the event; face painting, games, live music, performances, dancing, fun! Everyone is welcome & encouraged to participate in this amazing experience.   Area residents are invited to attend, join a team, start a team or participate in any way they would like - participants can stay for all or part of the event.
