Christmas Eve Crash Closes Hillcrest For Hours

A Somerset County man lost control of his car due to rain and crashed into a utility pole in Watchung.

WATCHUNG, NJ — A Somerset County man who lost control of his car due to rain crashed into a utility pole in Watchung causing the road to close for the rest of the day, police reported.

On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 at around 2:40 p.m., Johnny Haddley, 57, of North Plainfield was travelling north on Hillcrest Rd when he lost control of his 2006 Nissan due to the rain and struck a utility pole, Watchung Police reported.

Haddley was not injured, and there was limited damage to the front bumper of his vehicle, but the pole was unstable and Hillcrest Road was closed through the night and into the early morning hours of Christmas Day while a new pole was installed.

Haddley drove his vehicle from the scene, and no summonses have been issued.
