Cops: Man In Watchung Had 1,050 Heroin Bags In His Car Trunk

The seized heroin has an approximate street value of $10,500.00.

A Union County man was arrested this week after 1,050 bags of heroin were found in his car trunk, authorities said.

Johnny Jones, 41, was arrested Tuesday after he was found to possess the heroin while operating a maroon BMW 528i near a restaurant parking lot located on U.S. Highway Route 22 West in Watchung, Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano said.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. a Task Force surveillance team observed a vehicle matching Jones’ vehicle. After Jones parked the vehicle near the front entrance of the restaurant, detectives approached him and advised him of the ongoing narcotics investigation, the prosecutor said.

Jones subsequently consented to a voluntary search of his vehicle. The search resulted in the seizure of 1,050 bags - 21 bricks - of heroin from the trunk area of the vehicle. Defendant Jones was arrested without incident.

Jones was charged with Possession with the Intent to distribute CDS, second Degree.

The seized heroin has an approximate street value of $10,500.00.

Jones was lodged in the Somerset County Jail.
