Final Officer Approved to Fill Watchung Police Ranks

Borough Council approves hiring Brian McLaughlin as borough's newest officer.

The Watchung Borough Council approved the hiring of Ocean County resident Brian McLaughlin, 25, at Thursday's council meeting, completing a recent hiring spree that filled vacancies in the department.

McLaughlin has been employed as a Class 2 special officer with the Seaside Heights Police Department, after graduating from the Ocean County Police Academy in May 2010.

McLaughlin began as a probationary officer today, and will receive further training by riding with another officer for a period of time.

Also at the meeting, Borough Council President Debra Joren reported on the status of .

She said Ofcs. Dunne and Pero had completed ride-along training and are now ready for regular duty. Ofc. Hoffman completed his academy training and is also beginning the ride-along training. Ā Ā
