Mount Saint Mary Academy senior Cecilia DeFurianni of Union is being recognized for her vocal and instrumental abilities with acceptance into three exclusive music programs. DeFurianni has been awarded placement in the Central Jersey Regional Mixed Choir. Members of the mixed choir are an exclusive group as only the top 25 singers who audition for each voice part are chosen. DeFurianni was ranked the number 10 Soprano II of all those auditioning. Also a talented euphonium player, DeFurianni additionally earned placement for Central Jersey Regional Symphonic Band. Regional selection is based on highly competitive, blind auditions.
For the third consecutive year, DeFurianni has been named a Salvation Army New York Staff Band Future All Star and, for the first time, earned the position of first chair euphonium. She was one of only 60 young musicians selected from the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Future All Star Weekend, held March 21-23, provides the unique opportunity for rising brass players to perform and receive expert musical instruction. The New York Staff Band was established in 1887 and is currently based in West Nyack, New York. The group travels extensively throughout the world and has performed with artists ranging from the New York Philharmonic to Elton John.
