Reading Club for Youth with Special Needs
Increase your child's reading skills and love for reading!

Youth with special needs or those who could use a little help and encouragement with reading are welcome to join our Reading Club which continues this spring on Tuesdays from 5:00-5:45 pm. This affordable group class is designed for children ages 5-9 to help children with special needs or otherwise struggling or reluctant readers experience the joys of reading. In an embarrassment and failure free setting, the class capitalizes on strengths, instill self-confidence and foster a Can-Do attitude to help children read more confidently. The Club works on core skills depending on your child’s area (such as decoding, word attack, comprehension, making appropriate reading choices) using books, games, music and other activities. Led by Sarah Hanson, a Certified Teacher who has a wealth of experience as a teacher in the school system and well as extensive experience teaching reading to students with unique needs and experience working in youth recreation, the club also includes assistance from local teen Peer Mentors volunteers to help participants learn and have fun.
The group is a great bargain, at only $14 a week. We meet at the Summit Community Center, 100 Morris Avenue. Pre-registration required. Contact Summit Community Programs at 908-277-2932 for exact dates, pricing information and to register. You can also register online at https://register.communitypass.net/summit
