Recreation Programs for Youth with Special Needs
Great Youth Rec Programs Continue this Spring!
Youth with special needs or those who could use a little help and encouragement in participating in recreation are welcome to register for several “TryCAN” programs that start this spring. These popular and affordable programs, open to children from any town, help youth develop skills that allow them to pursue a sport or activity further or simply provide them with a meaningful recreation experience, using teen Peer Mentors from local middle and high schools to help participants learn and have fun.
A new program being offered is Dance and Movement group. Children participate in a unique learning environment where they will get moving through use of original and traditional music and songs, creative movement, dance and rhythms, games, and props that provide sensory stimulation, art and storytelling. Students will improve cognitive and motor skills. Other groups include:
- Reading Club (ages 5-9) – Tuesdays starting March 3.
- Social Skills, using technology, for 8-12 year olds – Mondays starting March 16.
- Teen Friendship Group – Mondays starting March 16.
- Music with Jammin’ Jenn (ages 4-8) – Thursdays starting March 19.
- Let’s Pretend play and social group for 3-5 year olds – Saturdays starting February 28.
- Play and Learn play and social group for 6-7 year olds – Saturdays starting February 28.
- Dance and Movement group for 5 – 8 year olds – Sundays starting March 1.
- Tennis Skills – starting April 18.
- Flag Football – starting April 19.
