Jersey Shore Beach Report: Sunshine, Comfortable Temperatures Await
The forecast for the last weekend before schools let out for summer across New Jersey is looking mighty nice.
The last weekend before schools across New Jersey let out for the summer is promising to be a pretty nice one.
Here is a look from Patch at the beach forecast for the weekend of June 12-14.
The National Weather Service is calling for some showers Friday night, giving way to what should be a nearly perfect beach day on Saturday. Sunday looks nice for the start, but showers may arrive just about the time people head home for the last school-week preparations. Bring plenty of sunscreen.

The rip current risk is low this weekend but that doesn't mean they aren't around. The water is still very cold and rip currents can develop at any time. JELLYFISH: There are a significant number of clinging jellyfish in the upper part of Barnegat Bay, including the Metedeconk River, according to Paul Bologna, the Montclair State biology professor and jellyfish expert.
Bologna shared video of a sampling from the Metedeconk River in the New Jersey Jellyspotters Facebook group on Thursday with a large number of clinging jellyfish in what appeared to be a quart jar. He said there is confirmation that a young child was stung the weekend of June 7 in that area.
The state Department of Environmental Protection has activated its clinging jellyfish map that tracks sampling; data shows the Metedeconk samplingfrom May. You can check it to see where they are. Clinging jellyfish are typically in areas with lots of vegetation, so people should be careful about wading.
If you're headed to the beach, bring some white vinegar and some calamine lotion to treat jellyfish stings. Bologna's tips: Apply white vinegar immediately. This stops any stinging cells that have not fired in the tentacles. Rinse the sting area with the salt water you are in to wash away tentacles. "Do not use bottled water to rinse as osmotic shock will cause stinging cells left behind to fire and continue to sting," he says. Wipe the area clean with a clean towel or cloth. Using hot water on a cloth will help denature the venom from clinging jellyfish, he said. Benadryl or calamine lotion can help with itching, and over-the-counter pain medicines can be used for pain from the stings depending on the severity.
