Residents Evacuated, Building Condemned After Car Crashes Into Storefront

A car crashed into a building on Watchung Avenue causing significant damage resulting in residents being evacuated, Plainfield Police report

Plainfield, NJ -- Plainfield residents were evacuated from their home after a car crashed into the building on Wednesday night, Plainfield police reported.

On Wednesday, April 27 at 10:10 p.m., a Toyota Camry crashed into the southeast corner of a building at 200 Watchung Avenue, causing significant damage to the building and storefront, police reported.

The Plainfield Fire Division evacuated the entire building and a City Construction official deemed the building unsafe for anyone to re-enter. The building was condemned and barricades were set up around it until it is repaired, police reported.

The residents of the building were relocated to a hotel by the building landlord.

The driver had minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. There were no other injuries reported.
